We use the Integrated Approach in conjunction with efficient and rich Learning Centres in each classroom.
Learning centres
The classrooms are carefully designed with different learning centres according to themes, including language centre, math centres, leisure corner, reading corner, heart-to-heart (intimate) talk corner, science centre, etc. The activities in each corner/centres have clear objectives providing diversified learning materials with various levels of difficulty to allow children to choose freely according to their own ability and interest. The teachers' role is to be a facilitator and scaffold children's knowledge and ability in order to provide appropriate guidance to enhance children's learning.
Project Learning
The teachers' main responsibility is to ask open-ended questions and provide a stimulating environment to stimulate children's thinking skills. Project learning provides an additional way to a wider range of learning opportunities in the classroom instead of limiting knowledge to the textbooks. Children learn to ask questions, collect information, organise data and report their findings verbally or in other forms, which enhances children's interaction with each other. When parents collect information with their child, they are also involved in implementing the school activities while at the same time enhancing parents-child relationship.
Medium of instruction
Anglo-Chinese Section: Cantonese and English supplemented with Putonghua (local programme, Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme applicable)
International Section: English with oral Putonghua classes (non-local programme, Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme not applicable)
Child-centred Approach
Child-centered approach gears our program to meet the children's individual abilities, needs, learning styles, experiences and interests. It is based on the belief that all children are capable of learning and are intrinsically motivated to learn. This approach respects the children's right to make choices, experience, explore, question and discover answers.
As our curriculum is based on their interest and experiences, related to the environment children live in, children become actively involved in constructing their own knowledge and take responsibility for their own learning. As children are in the center of the learning process, they are more aware of their environment and become confident and creative problem solvers.
Our teachers are facilitators who provide an environment that stimulates the children to discover and acquire new knowledge and skills that are developmentally and culturally appropriate using an integrated approach including thematic, learning centers, project and high scope. Our family and society also play a huge role in cooperating to help the children to develop positive learning habits and prepare for lifelong learning.
